History

Intent

A happiness filled, vocabulary rich, experiential adventure ...

We aim for children to have active and creative experiences which stimulate the children’s curiosity about ‘the past’. Our history curriculum provides children with coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past, and that of the local area and wider world. We also aim to provide a range of enrichment opportunities to enhance learning, such as access to historical artefacts and trips within our locality.  To ensure that pupils develop a secure knowledge that they can build on, our history curriculum is organised into a progression of skills including chronological understanding, historical understanding and interpreting historical events. Beginning in EYFS and Key Stage 1, children explore people and communities, reflecting largely on in their own experiences and that within living memory. As children move through key stage 2, they are encouraged to develop their historical thinking and questioning as they travel through history from the Stone Age to the present day.

Geography

Intent

A happiness filled, vocabulary rich, experiential adventure ...

We believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. The geography curriculum enables children to develop an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas. Children investigate a range of places – both in Britain and abroad – to underpin their knowledge of the Earth’s physical and human processes. We intend to develop the children’s ability to apply geographical skills and confidently communicate their findings.
