Kelloe Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Our Curriculum

Welcome to the Summer term. In English we will be basing our
reading and writing around a selection of different books including The Dragon Machine, The Dragon Sitter and information books about castles, Kings and Queens. In Maths we will continue to consolidate our understanding of place value and number. We will be investigating the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, measurements, time and position. In Science we will be looking at seeds and plants, finding out what they need to grow. We will be carrying out lots of practical investigations. In Geography we will be researching the physical features of Australia and finding out about daily life. Our focus in History this term is Castles, Kings and Queens, we will be developing our understanding of the role played by different Kings and Queens throughout history and studying the castles built in the past. This will also link with much of our work in English. In Art we will use a range of materials creatively to design and make products, developing a range of techniques using textiles. Our DT this term will be developing our understanding of mechanisms. In our RE
lessons we will be visiting St Helen’s Church and learning about how
Christians worship in a church. Computing will build on our understanding of algorithms, we will be programming and debugging using Probots to plot a route around a castle. We will also begin to use Powerpoint to present information. In Music we will be developing our singing skills, including singing in rounds and parts. We will be listening to a wide range of different musical genres. Basic Movements will be consolidated and extended into team games in our PE lessons.
