Welcome to Year 2
Our Curriculum
Welcome to the Spring term. In English we will be basing our reading and writing around a selection of different books including The Pirates Next Door, The Pirate Cruncher and the The Twits. We will be using this book as inspiration for descriptive writing, information texts, instructions and our own stories. In Maths we will develop our understanding of money, multiplication and division and fractions through a range of practical activities. In Science we will be looking at materials and their properties. We will be carrying out lots of investigations into the properties and uses of different materials. Our focus in history lessons are all about Explorers and we will be comparing Christopher Columbus with Neil Armstrong. We will also be looking at some famous pirates. In Geography we will extended our comps and mapping skills and will produce our own maps, plans and aerial views. In Art we will study sculpture, with a special focus on the work of Anthony Gormley. The children will make their own field sculpture. Our DT this term will be developing our understanding of structures. In our RE, lessons we will be finding out about Buddhism. In Computing will build on our understanding of word processing and how to present information in different ways. In Music we will be developing our singing skills. We will be listening to a wide range of different musical genres. Basic Movements will be consolidated and extended into team games in our PE lessons with a focus on passing and receiving accurately.
