Welcome to Year 1
Our science topic links nicely to our design and technology topic this half term. We will be investigating materials and exploring their properties. We will be using this knowledge to help us with our material choice to design and make finger puppets. In computing we are continuing to master using a laptop, especially our skills of typing to help us write documents and explore changing the font style, size and colour. Our history topic is toys and we will be playing with old and new toys and comparing them. In music we are looking at 6 different styles of music and learning to sing a song in each of the different styles. We will also be working on improving our playing of instruments. We will be creating shapes with our bodies in PE for our gymnastics lessons and linking them with different movements. In our Jigsaw PSHE lessons we are talking about our dreams and goals. Finally, for RE we are looking at the fascinating story of St Cuthbert.
In the second half of the spring term, we will return to studying the seasons in science and seeing how Winter springs into Spring. We have really enjoyed studying Autumn and Winter in the previous term so it will be pleasing to build on their knowledge of the seasons. This will be great inspiration for our art unit where we will be learning to draw and observe objects carefully. We will be going on a treasure hunt in geography using compass points to help us which links nicely to our computing topic where we will be revisiting algorithms. For PE we will be using our bodies to create a dance and our gymnastic shapes will come in useful. As we will be getting closer to Easter, we will be learning about and understanding the Easter story in our RE lessons. Our Jigsaw PSHE unit is Healthy Me and we will be learning about how to be healthy and have healthy relationships with friends and family. Finally, our music unit is looking at Latin American music and we will be continuing to improve our instrument playing skills.
