Kelloe Nursery & Reception

Welcome to EYFS, which is made up of Nursery and Reception children.

Our Curriculum

We will continue to embed daily routines so that children know what happens throughout the day. The children will have lots of time to learn through play and experience learning through our topics of amazing animals and come outside. We will deliver our curriculum through a balance of adult led and child initiated activities based on the EYFS framework.

We will be sharing our experiences and discussing any interests in animals we have, talking about our pets at home, learning about where animals live. (Communication and Language)

We will talk about our relationships with others and how we can make people happy and develop good relationships. We will talk about who is important in our lives. (PSED)

There will be many opportunities for fine motor activities through cutting, weaving, threading and playdough, using paintbrushes and holding pencils. We will be learning to move in different ways on apparatus and trying to balance using different body parts. (Physical development)

We will be looking at key events and special times such as Valentines Day, Pancake Day and Mothers’ Day. We will be exploring seasons and weather as we look outside to see what is changing. We will be exploring planting and flowers and how we can look after our garden.  (Understanding the world)

We will be creating animal masks and exploring animal patterns and prints. We will be looking at Chinese writing and making lanterns. We will look at Artwork themed around seasons as our season changes.  (Expressive Arts and design)

Reception

In phonics we will continue to develop our phonics through the Read Write Inc scheme. We will enhance our blending skills and quick recognition of sounds to enable us to read. We will continue to work on basic writing techniques such as finger spaces, full stops and starting letters in the correct place. We will be exploring lots of new books and discussing which ones we prefer and why.

In Maths we will be developing a deep understanding of numbers to 10. We will investigate number bonds to 10 and the composition of numbers to 10. We will look at length, weight and capacity and be involved in lots of practical activities using key vocabulary. We will look at addition and subtraction to 10. We will explore patterns and discuss what the repeated pattern is and make patterns in different ways.

Nursery

We will enjoy a range of songs and rhymes. We will investigate rhyme through our love of Nursery rhymes. We will learn to join in and copy sounds, rhythm and tempo. We will listen to stories and talk about what has happened and respond to the words or pictures. We will join in with repeated phrases in stories.

In Maths we will count in songs and count in everyday contexts. We will be exploring numbers to 5 and learning to subitise patterns and objects.

You can view our Curriculum Overview and Subjects or check out what we have been learning about on our Facebook page.
