Kelloe Nursery & Reception

Welcome to EYFS, which is made up of Nursery and Reception children.

Our Curriculum

This term we are really excited to be back after the Easter holidays. This is the last term for some of us but also the first term for some children as we welcome our new starters. The children will have lots of time to learn through play and experience learning through our topics of where in the world and at the seaside. We will deliver our curriculum through a balance of adult led and child initiated activities based on the EYFS framework.

We will be sharing our experiences about where we have been in our local area, England and around the world. (Communication and Language)

We will talk about our relationships with others and how we can make people happy and develop good relationships. We will talk about who we have travelled with and how that made us feel. (PSED)

There will be many opportunities for fine motor activities through cutting, weaving, threading and playdough, using paintbrushes and holding pencils. We will be using lots of equipment outside to help us move in a controlled way. We will be doing some yoga too! We will be celebrating sports week trying lots of new games. (Physical development)

We will be looking at key events and special times such as Fathers’ Day and the Queens jubilee. We will look at maps and look at how we travel to different places. We will compare the seaside now to what they were like in the past. (Understanding the world)

We will be learning about mixing paints and looking at different artists who painted beach scenes. We will create our own seasides (Expressive Arts and Design).

Reception

In phonics we will continue to develop our phonics through the Read Write Inc scheme. We will enhance our blending skills and quick recognition of sounds to enable us to read. We will continue to work on basic writing techniques such as finger spaces, full stops and starting letters in the correct place. We will create our own stories and look at the structure of stories. We will be exploring lots of new books and discussing which ones we prefer and why.

In Maths we will strengthen our understanding of numbers to 10. We will count on and back with numbers to 20. We will look at numerical patterns. We will look at addition and subtraction to 10. We will learn the names of shapes and investigate volume and capacity.

Nursery

We will enjoy a range of songs and rhymes. We will investigate rhyme through our love of Nursery rhymes. We will learn to join in and copy sounds, rhythm and tempo. We will listen to stories and talk about what has happened and respond to the words or pictures. We will join in with repeated phrases in stories. We will predict what might happen in stories and talk about the characters.

In Maths we will count in songs and count in everyday contexts. We will be exploring numbers to 5 and learning to subitise patterns and objects. We will use the language of more as we compare two groups. We will recognise groups of objects quickly.
